Too tired

Friday, November 9th, 2007

I want to post but I don’t have the energy. Perhaps just a really quick one to say that Google seem to have quietly release the new version of Gmail. So far it’s all positive - it seems faster and the new contacts management is an improvement.

Complete Twitter

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Yesterday before my meeting I decided to sign up to Twitter. I’m not sure how long I’ll use it for as I haven’t yet found a client that I like but for the time being you can read my tweets here.

Gmail sneak peek

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

It appears that my wish may be coming true with regards to Gmail’s contact management. According to this article Gmail have been working on increasing the response rate of their service as well as improving the contact management. What I really want to see here is something that I can syncronise with desktop software and ideally my mobile phone (and iPod?). I can currently do this via export/import but some details are either missing or not in Gmail in the first place. I also found some screenshots of the new contacts list and am pleased to see a separation of the postal (zip) code. This could lead to a very cool mashup with Google Maps…

Look - two posts in one day! I may not have managed it yesterday but I’m back on track. I’ll still try to post during next week while I’m in the US.

Google mail adds IMAP support

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

After hearing about this a few days ago I’ve been checking my settings every time I check my e-mail to see if the IMAP support was added to my account and today it finally has been! Setting it up is really simple - all you have to do is enable the IMAP server in your account and configure your e-mail client with the appropriate settings. Now I can read through my e-mails offline, and synchronise any changes to Gmail!

Gmail adds IMAP support

I think this feature was primarily added for iPhone users, but I think it’s possibly one of the best things to be added to Gmail in months! Now all I want is for Google to sort out their contact management (with simple synchronisation)!

New version of Google Mail?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

After recently reading that Yahoo Mail has overtaken GMail with recent features, it was great to hear that a new version of Google’s Mail service is being tested. I was an early adopter ofGMail and haven’t looked back. The space limit hasn’t been an issue to me, and the features (although recently development has appeared to slow down) are all excellent. I have redirected several addresses to my GMail account, and haven’t used Outlook or Thunderbird to collect personal mail for months. This might change when I get my Mac, but I doubt I’ll ever stop using GMail… I’m hoping the new version has an improved contacts list and I’m guessing there will be some Google Gears usage too.
